Boy battling cancer sworn in as youngest Franklin County deputy

EASTPOINT, Fla. (WTXL) — A young Franklin County boy who's been battling cancer fulfilled his dream of becoming a cop Wednesday.

Franklin County Sheriff A.J. 'Tony' Smith had the honor of swearing in their youngest deputy sheriff: a boy named Marley. Sheriff Smith visited Franklin County School to deputize the young survivor.

"Marley wished to be a lawman or doctor, but he told us he’d rather be a cop," Sheriff Smith said. "He said he couldn’t give shots."

Now, FCSO is asking that the community keep Marley in their thoughts and prayers as he continues battling cancer.

Marley returns back to Shands for treatment on Monday.
